Riser — Terms of Service

Last updated: August 4, 2026

These terms are a contract between you and Riser about your use of the Riser website and mobile app (together, "the service"). By creating an account or using the service, you accept them. If you don't accept them, don't use the service.

1. What Riser is — and is not

Riser is a fantasy hockey pool platform: a tool for creating and running a pool among friends or colleagues — drafting NHL players, setting lineups, making trades, and tracking standings that are computed from real NHL game statistics.

Riser is a scorekeeping and league-management tool. It is not a gambling operator, a betting site, a lottery, or a contest organizer. Specifically:

  • Riser handles no money. There is no way to pay anything through the service — no entry fees, no deposits, no purchases. The "salaries," "salary caps," and "contracts" you see in the app are fictional game mechanics based on public NHL salary figures; no real currency is involved.
  • Riser awards no prizes. Standings are just standings.
  • If the members of a pool privately agree among themselves on entry fees, prizes, or any wagering arrangement, that is their own private arrangement, made and settled entirely outside the service. Riser is not a party to it, does not facilitate it, cannot enforce it, and accepts no responsibility for it.

2. Who may use the service

You must be able to form a binding contract. You are responsible for your account and for keeping your password to yourself. Tell us at support@riserpool.com if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. Pools and commissioners

Pools are run by their members, not by us. Every pool has a host (commissioner) and may have co-hosts. By joining a pool, you accept that its commissioner has broad powers inside that pool, enforced by the service itself, including:

  • setting and changing the pool's rules, scoring, dates, salary-cap and keeper settings — including during the season;
  • editing any member's roster and lineup, including yours, and bypassing the usual phase and lock restrictions;
  • adjusting members' transaction allowances, overriding a player's data pool-wide, and re-running scoring for the whole pool;
  • approving, rejecting, or forcing trades where the pool's rules involve commissioner review;
  • managing team claim links (used to invite someone to take over a team) and member team details;
  • deleting the pool entirely, which removes its data for every member (a summary of member history is archived).

Riser does not referee pools. Disputes about a commissioner's decisions — rule changes, roster edits, trade vetoes — are between you and your pool. Our support can help with technical problems, not with overturning your commissioner.

4. Your content and conduct

The service includes pool chat and direct messages. You keep ownership of what you write and upload (messages, team names, pool names, avatar). You grant Riser a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content as needed to operate the service — for example, showing your team name to your poolmates, or including a message preview in a notification.

You agree not to use the service to post content that is unlawful, hateful, harassing, or that infringes someone else's rights, and not to abuse, disrupt, or attempt to break the service (including attempting to access data that isn't yours).

Practical points about messages, so there are no surprises:

  • Messages are automatically and permanently deleted after 30 days, with narrow exceptions (moderation snapshots of reported content — messages, and reported display, team, or pool names — and the demonstration/review pools we operate ourselves) described in the privacy policy. Moderation snapshots are kept for moderation and member safety, and only for as long as necessary to review and act on the report, as the privacy policy describes. Don't use Riser chat as an archive.
  • You can delete your own messages; a message's deletion hides it for everyone.
  • You can report any message from another member and block any member directly in the app (from a message's menu, in pool chat and in direct messages). Blocking hides that person's messages from you and prevents direct messages between you in both directions; you manage your blocks in Settings. You can also report abusive behavior to us at support@riserpool.com.
  • We may remove content and suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.

5. NHL data, names, and images

Riser displays real NHL player names and game statistics. These are facts about public sporting events, used to compute pool standings. Salary figures come from public sources.

The service displays no NHL logos or NHL-hosted photographs.

Riser is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the National Hockey League or any NHL team. NHL team names and logos are the property of the NHL and its teams.

6. Riser's property

The service itself — its software, design, and the Riser name and logo — belongs to us. These terms don't give you any right to use our name or branding.

7. Ending your account

  • You can leave at any time by deleting your account in the app (Settings on the web; More → Settings on mobile). The privacy policy describes exactly what is deleted and what remains: your identity and messages are permanently deleted, except that moderation snapshots of content that was reported (messages, and reported display, team, or pool names) are kept as the privacy policy describes; your teams remain in their pools as unnamed, unclaimed placeholder teams — their team names are removed at deletion — no longer connected to you. If you host pools, you must delete them first — a pool cannot currently be transferred to another host.
  • We can suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or threaten the service or its users.

8. The service is provided "as is"

We work to keep Riser accurate and available, but:

  • Statistics come from external sources (the NHL's public data feeds) and can be late, revised, or wrong; scoring is recomputed from them and can therefore change after the fact.
  • The service may be unavailable, interrupted, or changed.
  • We provide the service "as is" and "as available," without warranty of any kind, to the maximum extent permitted by law.
  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to the service is limited to $0 — the amount you paid us, the service being free. We are not liable for indirect damages, lost data (including the scheduled 30-day deletion of messages), the conduct of other users or commissioners, or the outcome of any arrangement pool members made among themselves.

9. Changes to the service and to these terms

The service will evolve — features may be added, changed, or removed, including things a pool relies on mid-season. We may also amend these terms; if we do, we will post the new version with a new date and notify you of significant changes in the app or by email. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept it.

10. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Québec and the applicable laws of Canada. Disputes go to the courts of Québec.

11. Language

These terms are published in French and in English.
